MASHUP #12: Love taken over (again)

Based on “ Love taken over (Quiet Storm Mix)” by Chante Moore that I discovered on the excellent Digital DJs podcast.

I added the keyboards and the beats from bits and pieces (no actual keyboard playing – I know my limits). Had a great time doing the editing!

MASHUP #11: Contemplatin’ (Hangin’ on a string)

Based on “Hangin’ on a String” (Loose Ends), combined with a Groove Armada bass and some drum tracks

MASHUP #10: Play That Shit

Sometimes all you need is some encouragement, some inspiration and some time:
some kind words from Penny Pincher
the Stewart Copeland appearance on Mac OSX Conference on IT Conversations.
3 hours where I should have been taking care of my accounting
The results: a mashup of Stewart’s one-liners (and there were quite some, check out the show, it’s excellent!), [...]

MASHUP #9: Smooth Scratch

This is what I would call a ‘quickie’:
I rehashed a scratch sample to a groove, recorded (with my GuitarPort) a bass line and a guitar riff to go with it, programmed the drums one beat at a time, and finished the whole thing in less than an hour.
Quality has suffered (I’m not too happy with [...]

MASHUP #8: Hard Work (George W Bush)

This mix was inspired by the first Presidential debate between George W Bush and John Kerry. An MP3 was compiled full of ‘bushisms’, and that was my start material.
I combined it with Praga Khan’s ‘Power of the flower’ basically because I had those samples handy. No political statement there …

MASHUP: Japanese Rock ‘n Roll (Prodikeys)

Nothing like an enthusiastic engineer to sell a home entertainment keyboard.
A commercial for the Creative ‘Prodikeys’ product features an archetypical Japanese sales guy teaching us how to play rock ‘n roll drums on a MIDI keyboard. This is not the best way to play drums, and he adequately proves this point.

MASHUP: Very Good Friends

I used an acapella from Blue Six (Very Good Friend) and added a drum loop from Barry White

MASHUP: Hold on (People)

Made from a Lisa Stansfield acapella (‘People Hold On’), but tuned down with a firm delay to get a more bizarre voice. Added some samples from Maxwell and Me’Shell.

MASHUP: Watch your step

Mashup of ‘Step into the dark’ (Marc Moulin) and ‘Ten percent’ (Double Exposure)

MASHUP: Untitled (SuperFunkin’)

Made this on a quiet evening, using samples from the ‘Sampled’ series. The base beat is from Groove Armada. Had to straighten a 5/4 break to fit my 4/4 format.
